The Orpheus Trio has been established for over ten years and is now recognised as the foremost group of its kind in Ireland. The three members:
Jerry Creedon - Classical Guitar
Joan Scannell - Cello
John O'Connor - Flute
are busy freelance performers who all lecture at the Cork School of Music
We tour extensively, giving recitals at arts centres, schools, churches, concert halls and corporate venues, and have built up a huge repertoire suitable for any occasion. From society weddings to corporate entertainment, classical music recitals to jazz background music, the Orpheus Trio perform with a commitment and enthusiasm that sets us apart from all of the competition!
Weddings
We can play for the church service or the champagne reception or - occasionally - both. We provide an expert specialist service whereby a programme of religious, classical, or traditional music is tailored to your unique requirements. We have an existing repertoire of hundreds of pieces and will do our best to find and perform any special requests you may have. Download and listen to our sample recordings and have a look at our repertoire list for ideas or email us for advice - don't worry, we don't expect you to be musical experts or even know the names of your favourite tune - describe it or hum it over the phone and we can usually make an identification. If you wish you can leave the whole selection up to us and we will devise a suitable programme for you.
The purely instrumental music of the Orpheus Trio is more than adequate to complement and enhance your wedding service. However,if you want a singer for your service we will either engage a professional soloist on your behalf or accompany one you provide yourself. We would also be delighted to assist and accompany any of your friends or family that you would like to perform in an amateur capacity. Just email for information or advice.
String Quartet
We'd better get this straight - a string quartet is a group consisting of people who own or rent violins, violas and cellos. The expression is often understood by non-experts to describe ANY type of small instrumental group, and in this context we fit the bill perfectly. The Orpheus Trio is not a string quartet - similar...yes, better... yes, cheaper...sometimes...but not, by definition, a string quartet. If you must follow the crowd and have one then we recommend you talk to Joan, our cellist, who plays with a very good quartet (... not as good as us mind you...sniff.. ). Remember, what you want is probably us anyway and we don't mind at all being described as a S***g Q*****t on mass booklets or anything like that.
A word of caution...there are many, many groups sailing under the SQ flag. Cheapest is not always the best option, get recommendations, go and hear them, ask them who their personnel are and their experience and credentials...then come back to us!
